How Do Insulated Water Bottles Actually Work?
The short answer
Insulated water bottles use a low-pressure gap between double walls to reduce conduction and convection, slowing heat transfer into or out of the drink. Reflective surfaces and the lid also affect performance. They do not create permanent temperatures; openings, sunlight, ambient heat, and starting conditions still matter.
Insulated water bottles work through vacuum cavitation. By removing air atoms between two layers of stainless steel, a vacuum is created. Since heat requires a medium (like air) to travel via conduction or convection, the vacuum acts as a near-perfect barrier, keeping internal temperatures stable for 6-24 hours.
